The origins of Crewe's name is complex, culminating in the town being named after the Railway Works which were built there. The historic Railway Station is on the West Coast Main Line from London to Glasgow - with 12 platforms it is the rail gateway to North-East England. The town has a rich industrial past, with the factory building on Pyms Lane - formerly a Rolls-Royce factory - now producing Bentleys. Crewe Hall, now a hotel, restaurant and health club, is a Grade 1 listed Jacobean building.
